Old Riga

In year 2013 popular USA newspaper „USA Today” readers voted for the most beautiful European city, and Riga was the top winner. Old Riga is the historical and geographical centre of Riga on the right bank of the Daugava. Old Riga covers a relatively small inner area of the 13th-18th century fortifications where unique monuments of medieval architecture which, surprisingly, have survived two world wars are concentrated. Anyone can enjoy the aura of an ancient city in the narrow streets.

Riga is a masterpiece of architecture which has retained the atmosphere of old times and has adjusted to the 21st century tourist flow – numerous comfortable hotels, restaurants, and places for recreation are found here. Old Riga is as lively at midnight as during the daytime.

Sigulda

Sigulda is a townin the Vidzeme Region of Latvia, 53 kilometres (33 miles) from the capital city Riga.Three medieval castles and picturesque landscape down the slopes of the Primeval valley of the Gauja River have inspired people to go and see the beauty with their own eyes for more than two centuries. Sigulda takes pride in its original guestbook – Gutman’s Cave (Gūtmaņala) which holds names of its guests.

Rundale

The Rundāle Palace is located in Zemgale in the south of Latvia. The Rundāle Palace is known as excellent example of Latvia’s Baroque and Rococo architecture, and it is certainly the country’s most important historical monument in relation to those two styles. The palace was at first the summer residence of the duke of Courland, Ernst Johan Byron. There is a museum in the castle, and the restored Baroque French garden is the largest garden of its type in the Baltic States.

Ventspils

Ventspils is located in the north-west part of Latvia near the place, where the river Venta flows into the Baltic Sea and 189 km from the capital city Riga. City Ventspils a popular tourist centre in Latvia, offering recreation on a “Blue Flag” beach with excellent amenities and Ventspils Aqua Park. Children will enjoy the playgrounds at the Children’s Town. The facilities of Olympic Centre “Ventspils” welcome sports fans. History is still alive in Ventspils Old Town, in the Castle of the Livonian Order, and in the narrow cobbled streets of Ostasgals. A 6 metre high and 23 tonne anchor is displayed on the Anchor Path. A ride on the narrow gauge railway “Mazbānītis” or in the velo rail car at the Maritime Open Air Museum offer unique sensations, as does a tour of the aquatorium of Ventspils Port in the ship “HercogsJēkabs”.
